There isn’t a way to stop time from taking its toll on your face and neck. Eventually, these areas will begin to show signs of your years. At around the age of 40, sagging skin and wrinkles will begin to appear on the jowls and lower face. These effects will continue to increase in your 50s and 60s.
Worried that you’ll have to leave your youthful looks behind as you get older? Don’t be. With a mini facelift, you can address the early signs of aging as well as counteract the effects of gravity, time, and sun exposure to restore your vibrant appearance, feel fresher, and feel more confident.
How does it differ from a traditional facelift?
A traditional facelift is more invasive. It requires an incision from your hairline to your ears. Once this is done, the skin on the face is raised and the muscles underneath the skin are tightened. Excess skin and fat may also be removed if warranted. The recovery time for a traditional facelift is approximately two weeks. However, it will take about six weeks for the changes to your skin sensation, bruising, and swelling to resolve themselves.
The mini facelift is a popular alternative to the standard facelift. It is an in-office, minimally invasive procedure with minimal downtime. The recovery is quick, with limited swelling and bruising compared to the traditional facelift. Sutures are removed in the second week.
It is performed under local anesthesia with light oral sedation and the procedure takes approximately three hours to complete. Because general anesthesia isn’t required, you can walk out of the office on the same day as the procedure and get back to work within three to seven days. The risks are also minimized.
Not only is this procedure faster and less invasive than a traditional facelift—and requires less downtime—but it’s also more affordable.
How it works
During this procedure, your plastic surgeon will administer local anesthesia and oral pain medication. Then he or she will create a small incision in order to separate the skin from the facial tissue. Facial muscles are tightened, excess fat is removed, the skin is smoothed, and excess skin is trimmed.Liposuction of the neck may be included as well as free fat grafting to the face. The incisions (and subsequent scars) are smaller, shorter, and well hidden.
Improving the visible signs of aging
A mini facelift can successfully improve many of the telltale signs of aging in the face and neck. It is often used to reduce the earlier signs of aging in patients in their 30s and 40s, those who do not have extreme excess skin, and those whose faces show aging in the midface and jawline.
It can remove wrinkles; reduce sagging in the midface; reduce the appearance of jowls; remove loose skin on the neck; eliminate deep creases along the nose; and remove displaced, fallen, or atrophied fat. This procedure is particularly effective at redraping the skin of the face, which minimizes the appearance of loose neck skin and jowls, and produces a sharper jawline. The face will be tighter and more contoured.
Even though a mini facelift is minimally invasive and inexpensive, you don’t have to sacrifice long-lasting results by choosing this alternative. Not only will it allow you to address the unwelcomed signs of aging, but it can also postpone the need for extensive surgery for several years due to its long-lasting effects.
If you’re interested in taking years off of your appearance without extensive surgery, higher costs, and lengthy downtime, consider a mini facelift. Book a consultation with Monarch Plastic Surgery to find out if you’re an ideal candidate for this procedure.
