solutions for dehydrated skinFor some, summer means fun in the sun, swimming laps in a pool, and breezy cocktails enjoyed in a cool, air-conditioned home... For others, though, summer can mean dry, tight, dull, flaky, or itchy skin. Between the often scorching sun, the chlorine from the pool, and the air conditioning taking all the moisture out of the air, it’s easy for our skin to become dehydrated.

Even oily skin can be dehydrated. When our skin is dehydrated, it means we're suffering from a lack of water, not oil. Healthy skin needs to be hydrated to function properly. While drinking a lot of water is important, it’s not enough to combat dehydrated skin.

If you want to keep your skin hydrated and healthy all summer long, follow these tips from the aestheticians at Monarch Skin Rejuvenation Center:

Tip #1: Use a mild or gentle cleanser

Harsh chemicals tend to over-dry the skin, so you'll want to use a mild or gentle cleanser, such as the Vivier Hexam Cleanser. Use tepid (warm, not hot) water.

Tip #2: Make sure you're using a toner

Tone-cleansing can strip the natural oils in our skin. Using a toner helps bring the PH level back to normal. Try Obagi Toner

Tip #3: Moisturize every morning and evening

Keep that skin hydrated with the right moisturizer! You'll want a moisterizer with hyaluronic acid, like our Monarch Hydraboost Gel. This is great for any skin type; think of it as a big drink of water for your skin.

Tip #4: Exfoliate daily

It’s important to remove those dead skin cells that build up on the surface of the skin, causing it to look dull. Try Vivier AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cream

Tip #5: Wear sunscreen everyday, rain or shine

No matter the weather, you need a broad-spectrum sunscreen (like our Elta MD UV Daily Broad Spectrum SPF 40to protect your skin from harsh UVA/UVB rays.

Tip #6: Treat yourself to a light chemical peel

A light chemical peel featuring gentle exfoliants  such as Latic or Glycolic acids  can help remove dead cell build-up and give you that dewy, summer glow!

Tip #7: Get a medical facial

A medical facial is customized to the patient's needs, and often include microdermabrasion, steam treatment, and a hydrating mask. These are great for keeping the skin hydrated and healthy!
