The holiday travel season is in full swing! As if the dry, cold winter air doesn’t provide enough of a challenge for keeping skin hydrated, when traveling by airplane for the holidays, we have to worry about seriously low humidity, increased stress levels and lower oxygen supplied to the skin. Fifty percent humidity is the norm for human comfort, but the cabin will often have just five to 20 percent humidity. This can lead to extremely dehydrated skin, which is the last thing you need before arriving to your holiday party. Follow these skincare tips to maintain glowing skin while traveling for the holidays.

Drink Water

Drink plenty of water before, on and after the plane ride to hydrate from the inside-out. This will keep your skin looking supple and clear. Avoid drinking alcohol or soda on the plane, which will dehydrate the body even more.

De-Puff Eyes

After a long day of traveling, connections and almost missing flights, exhaustion will take a toll on your eyes. Start combatting this beforehand and pay special attention to the eye area. Apply the Skinbetter Science Daily Treatment Eye Cream to diminish the appearance of crow's feet, puffiness, dehydration, bags and under-eye darkness.

Mist

For extra moisture, use a thermal spray like the Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray. Known for its healing power, it has soothing, anti-irritating and anti-inflammatory benefits. It will leave your skin feeling soft and fresh, relaxing puffy eyes, soothing reddened skin and brightening the complexion. It is the perfect pick-me-up for your skin.

Cleanse and Moisturize

If you can avoid wearing makeup on the plane, we would recommend it, as this can dry out your skin and cause breakouts. Additionally, changes in acne severity correlates directly with our stress levels. The inevitable travel-stress could flare up a breakout. After getting off the plane, cleanse and moisturize your face. Our customer-fave, the Obagi CLENZIderm Daily Foaming Cleanser removes dirt and excess oil from the day of traveling. Follow it up with the Obagi Hydrate Facial Moisturizer to restore moisture to the skin.

Hydrating Mask

Later, we recommend applying a hydrating mask or anti-aging cream to repair any damage. The SkinCeuticals Biocellulose Restorative Masque provides immediate relief to irritated skin. It alleviates discomfort, while soothing and calming the skin.
