When-Is-the-Best-Time-to-Undergo-Laser-Skin-Resurfacing.jpgLaser skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive procedure that can effectively reduce the signs of aging, sun damage, acne scars, and other blemishes on the skin. In addition, it’s also a proven treatment to balance an uneven skin tone as well as tighten skin. The procedure works by removing the outermost layers of the skin with precision. New skin cell then form during the healing process, allowing for a smoother, younger looking surface.

If any of these facial flaws or imperfections are troubling you, laser skin resurfacing is an ideal solution. It will help your skin look healthier and younger, while giving you a radiant glow.

And guess what? Now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment. In fact, laser skin resurfacing is often touted as the best treatment to get in the fall and winter months. Here are a few reasons why.

You can take time off more easily

Though laser skin resurfacing does come with a quick recovery period, it isn’t completely free of downtime. The downtime you will need will depend on the laser used, the intensity of the treatment, and your health and healing rate.

You may feel some stinging and itching for the first 12 to 72 hours. Your skin may be red orraw, depending on the treatment. In addition, some swelling is also normal. Though you could go to work feeling like this, you may not want to.

Fall and winter are the best months to get this treatment, particularly if you have trouble booking time off of work. There are many holidays during this time period that you can use as recovery time. In addition, winter is often the slow time for many industries, making it easier for you to request a few days off of work.

You can cover up

For approximately five to seven days after your treatment, your skin will become dry and it will peel. It can be difficult to cover up this evidence of a recent procedure in the summer. But in the colder months, you can wear chunky scarves, ear muffs, and big hats, so no one will be the wiser that you’ve had work done.

You can hibernate

This is the ideal time to get laser skin resurfacing, particularly for women. During this time, while your face is healing, you are advised not to wear any makeup for a day or two. If you are uncomfortable going out and meeting people with a bare face, getting this treatment isn’t ideal when you have vacations and social plans made.

The winter is typically spent hibernating, however. You can stay home during the healing process and cozy up in bed with a good book and a cup of cocoa.

You can avoid sun exposure

While your skin is healing, it is absolutely essential that you stay out of the sun’s rays. Your skin will be lighter and more photosensitive after the procedure. Sun exposure can lead to freckles, brown spots, and other forms of damage to the treated areas.

You will be required to use broad-spectrum sunscreen and wear protective clothing to prevent sun exposure, and you’ll be advised to stay indoors as much as possible.

This can be quite difficult in the summer months when the sun is hot and sizzling and you have places to go and people to see. It’s much easier to stay indoors and away from the sun in the winter, when the days are shorter, the weather is colder, and the sun rarely makes an appearance.

Undergoing laser skin resurfacing during the colder months can help ensure optimal healing and results.
