SmartLipo is a minimally invasive type of cosmetic surgery that can help remove small pockets of fat from specific areas all throughout your body. Whereas traditional liposuction is effective at removing larger amounts of fat from your body, SmartLipo is more effective at treating smaller areas of localized fat, and offers less downtime than regular liposuction.
If you’ve been working hard at exercising and trying to tone pockets of excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat, you may be an ideal candidate for SmartLipo treatment. Patients who undergo SmartLipo can usually benefit from a speedy recovery, and may be able to limit the wearing of compression garments following surgery to only two weeks, as opposed to the six weeks it usually takes to heal from traditional liposuction.
What can be treated through SmartLipo?
Any area of your body that won’t respond to good nutrition and regular exercise could be effectively treated through SmartLipo. For example, if you’ve been able to slim down everywhere except in your upper arms and abdominal region, you may be able to tighten these areas with SmartLipo.
The areas most commonly treated with SmartLipo include:
- Excess fat around bra lines
- Male breasts
- Love handles
If you’re interested in having SmartLipo performed on a particular stubborn section of your body that won’t respond to diet or exercise, bring your concerns to your cosmetic surgeon at the time of your consultation. Your cosmetic surgeon can perform an evaluation to determine if SmartLipo can help you achieve the look you desire.
Qualifying for SmartLipo treatment
The best candidates for SmartLipo treatment are those who are in good physical health and within a healthy weight range. SmartLipo is not to be considered a weight-loss treatment, but is ideal for those interested in body contouring, or in improving the appearance of their silhouettes.
Ideal candidates for SmartLipo already exercise on a regular basis, and currently consume healthy foods high in nutrition. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are key to ensuring that fat deposits won’t return after SmartLipo treatment. Following surgery, you will be expected to maintain these healthy lifestyle habits so you can enjoy a successful recovery and return to your normal activities within just a few days.
Who will not qualify for SmartLipo?
Even if you don’t think you qualify for SmartLipo treatment, schedule a consultation with your cosmetic surgeon to verify your qualification status, and to see if you qualify for any other treatments that could help tighten and tone certain areas of your body. Generally, pregnant women and nursing moms are not recommended for SmartLipo, as well as individuals with a BMI that falls into the obese range. Individuals who take blood thinners or have health conditions of the heart, liver, and kidneys are also not recommended for SmartLipo treatment due to the possible risks associated with the procedure.
