In most cases, women seek cosmetic and plastic surgeries more often than men, but a new trend shows that more men are starting to undergo these types of procedures as well. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) found that between 1997 and 2012, the number of cosmetic procedures for men increased by more than 106 percent. Much like women, men opt to have procedures done to help them look better and advance their professional careers.
According to The Health Site, the three most popular cosmetic procedures for men from 1997 to 2013 were treatment for male breasts, rhinoplasty, and hair restoration. Dr. Mohan Thomas, a leading cosmetic surgeon, explains that men come in for different procedures based on the lifecycle phase they’re currently in. Thomas points out that younger patients tend to come in for rhinoplasty (cheek bone or chin definition), body contouring and gynaecomastia (surgical management of male breast). Older men tend to seek non-surgical procedures for management of aging, such as dermal fillers and Botox.
