In recent years, a new trend has emerged that may be helping many couples bond and stay close. Nationwide, plastic surgeons have been reporting couples procedures — which are plastic surgery procedures performed on husbands and wives. Often the spouses undergo the same procedures, but at other times they may be undergoing two different procedures. However, regardless of the type of procedure being done, the important point is that couples bond through their shared plastic surgery experience.
It isn’t just women who experience physical changes due to aging or pregnancy. Men go through a number of their own physical changes as they age as well. It isn’t uncommon for men to even experience changes related to their wives’ pregnancies, most notably weight gain. Couples that age together and experience life together, growing in their love and appreciation for one another might also benefit from undergoing youth-enhancing plastic surgery together.
While there may be a number of reasons for couples to seek plastic surgery, the rise in procedures for men is likely helping to support this trend. Men have sought out more procedures than ever in recent years for a number of reasons, including wanting to stay competitive in the job market or to stay attractive for spouses or significant others. Botox and fillers have become the mainstays of procedures for men, but men also have more frequently sought facelifts, liposuction, and body contouring than ever before. As more men have sought out plastic procedures, the stigma that once surrounded plastic surgery for men has fallen away. In addition, men are seeing their wives or girlfriends undergoing procedures and emerging looking and feeling fantastic. Men want to feel and look just as great.
The desire to match a partner’s appearance and energy level may also account for the upsurge in couples undergoing plastic surgery together. Wanting to match a partner’s youthfulness, self-confidence, and energy level may prompt a desire to undergo a procedure together. In addition, by undergoing plastic surgery together, even if it isn’t the same procedure, a couple can recover together and fully understand what the other half is going through. This level of understanding may create an even tighter, more intimate bond between the partners.
More invasive procedures may not be performed at the same time, or even on the same day, but they can be performed in close enough proximity to fully experience surgery as a partner activity. On the other hand, some couples opt to have several weeks or months between their surgeries so that they might help each other through recovery. Minimally invasive procedures, however, can often be performed within minutes of each other.
