In March, Monarch Plastic Surgery and Skin Rejuvenation Center introduced a new treatment called EMSCULPT. This is the only FDA-approved, non-surgical procedure that builds muscle and burns fat using a breakthrough technology known as High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM®) energy. Dr. Paul Leahy, a Monarch surgeon, explained how this new device works. Read on to learn how this revolutionary  procedure can help you take your body contouring to the next level!

What Is EMSCULPT?

According to Dr. Leahy, the “EM” in EMSCULPT stands for “electromagnetic” — the technique the procedure uses. “This device uses electromagnetic waves to generate muscle contractions in either your abdominal muscles or in the gluteal muscles,” Dr. Leahy explains. These contractions are the equivalent of 20,000 crunches or 11,000 lunges created in a gym atmosphere.

How Does It Work?

During the procedure, the patient lies down on a comfortable table, and plastic paddles are secured by a strap to either the abdominal or buttocks area. A member of the Monarch staff will be standing by to adjust the intensity level of the high-powered magnet. This magnet sends signals to the body’s nerves, which then signal the muscles to contract. According to Dr. Leahy, these signals are sent with “such intensity and rapid frequency that the fat cells that live right by your muscle get so quickly depleted of their energy that the nucleus dies.” In this way, EMSCULPT can both burn fat and tone muscle. Studies have found a 16 percent increase in muscle tone and a 19 percent fat reduction after the process.

Are There Any Risks?

There is very little risk associated with EMSCULPT. No burning or gastrointestinal side effects have been reported in any trials. While you may feel as if you’ve completed a workout the next day, there is no pain during or following the procedure.

Are You a Candidate?

Nearly everyone can be a candidate for EMSCULPT! The more fit you are before the treatments, the faster you may see results. Clients must be healthy, well-hydrated and wearing loose clothing when they come in for the procedure. The best way to determine if you’re a candidate for this core-strengthening treatment is by scheduling a complimentary consultation.

The following may disqualify you as a candidate for the procedure:

  • Hip joint replacement
  • IUD made of copper
  • Piercings (or any metal on or around treatment area)
  • History of epilepsy
  • Sick with a fever
  • Pacemakers
  • Special drug delivery pumps like those that deliver insulin

Begin your body contouring today! Initial EMSCULPT treatments must be purchased in a package of four 30-minute sessions to be completed within a two-week period. We recommend that additional maintenance treatments be completed quarterly or as needed to maintain your results.

Schedule a complimentary consultation by calling (913) 317-9386 (Leawood) or (816) 436-3262 (North KC) or visiting our website.
