renee zellweger's appearanceCelebrities are often in the spotlight for more than their latest performances, and actress Renee Zellweger is no exception. Over the last several weeks, the actress has been under scrutiny due to apparent changes to her appearance.

In a case of “did she or didn’t she,” the press has been hounding her to discuss the changes and whether or not she has had plastic surgery. There are a number of lessons we can learn from Renee Zellweger about appearances, self-esteem, and about making the decision to undergo plastic surgery.

Own your look

In her response to media criticism, Renee Zellweger has not shied away. Instead of simply ignoring questions from the press, she has decided to address the media head-on, but in a way that respects her own needs and privacy. Whether you opt for skin treatments, dermal fillers, or plastic surgery, own it. The only person you have to please is yourself.

Plastic surgery is your own decision

Renee Zellweger works in an industry known for its emphasis on appearances and for being rather unkind to women as they age. Unfortunately, many choose to undergo plastic surgery for the wrong reasons. When considering plastic surgery, it should be your own decision, and not because someone else is pressuring you to change your look. Women — and men — who make the decision to undergo plastic surgery to satisfy their own desires are overwhelmingly more satisfied than those who want to change their appearance for someone else.

Don’t apologize for taking care of yourself

Taking care of yourself can mean any number of things, but you shouldn’t apologize for it. When others notice how great you look or how happy you seem to be, smile a little bigger and stand a little taller. Say a hearty, “Thanks for noticing!” and move on with your life, but don’t apologize. Furthermore, don’t explain if you don’t feel inclined to do so. It’s your business how you achieved your peaceful, youthful, or refreshed appearance, and not the business of anyone else.

Manage your health

Your health is your best asset, and it often shows in your appearance. Renee Zellweger attributes the apparent changes in her appearance to being healthy and happy — more so than at any other time in her life. Whether health and happiness are the cause of her physical transformation or not may be irrelevant. What is important is that she feels good and can smile and enjoy her life.

Find a support network

Surround yourself with people who support you and your decisions. Some may not agree with or support your decision to undergo plastic surgery because they are jealous. Others may fear that you are somehow leaving them behind. Sometimes, others become critical of us and our decisions because of things happening in their own lives. It’s not healthy for them and it’s not healthy for you. Seek out friends who support your personal choices and are willing to be there for you before, during, and after your plastic surgery. Renee Zellweger, when pressed about her appearance, has referred to her friends — her support system — and how they see a positive change in her overall well-being. She also mentions having a partner, her boyfriend, who supports her interests, needs, and her attention to caring for herself.
