Try these exercises after your tummy tuck!

The truth is you need to keep your stomach muscles strong, and that means using targeted exercises to tighten your abs and reduce the risk for stretch marks.

Here are three of the most effective ab exercises you can do after tummy tuck surgery:

Crunches

As the tried and true method for getting and keeping your flat stomach, crunches contract your abdominal muscles and work your entire tummy. Lie on your back and raise your legs close to your chest, and cross your ankles. Next, place your hands behind your head with your elbows pointed straight out to your sides. Make sure not to strain your neck, and think of your hands in a placement rather than helping hold your head up -- that’s work for your abs. Slowly contract your muscles, bring your head up to your knees, and pull your elbows in. Hold for two seconds, then release and lower yourself back to the floor. Always leave your lower back on the floor, and do two sets of 10 to 12 reps.

V crunches

Varying the traditional crunch, the V crunch can help flatten your tummy as well with the use of a chair. Sit on the chair and keep your back straight and your arms at your sides. Lean your upper body back at a 45-degree angle, keeping your back straight, to one side of the chair to make one side of the “V.” Then, contract your abdomen and bring your legs up to make the second half of the “V.” Keep your legs as straight as possible, and move them up and down to build stomach strength.

Floor leg lifts

With floor leg lifts, you want to lay flat on your back on the floor with your arms at your sides. Next, lift your legs six to 10 inches off the ground, tightening your stomach muscles to hold that position. Then, lower your legs to the ground and repeat the sequence as many times as you can without straining your back or abs.
